In ancient times, people grew afraid when each day had fewer hours of sunshine than the day before and feared that one day there would be no daylight left. Winter solstice, on December 21, was the darkest, most frightening day of them all. Eventually they realized that after this day each year the sun started moving towards them again, and that is still celebrated, especially at the Wild Bear Nature Center.
During the Winter Solstice Celebration on Saturday, December 16, 2023, the Nature Center will be open from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
The event includes:
Live Owl Ambassadors w/ Nature’s Educators
Beeswax Candle Making
Live Music
Shadow puppets
Hot cider
Hands-on Astronomy Exhibit
Winter crafts
